Instead of the last game's minigame collection, Black Knight includes a bonus "battle mode" where up to four players fight with swords in an enclosed arena. However, players now use the Wiimote's analog stick to maneuver him, with the motion controls instead used for sword-based combat. Like the game's predecessor, Sonic moves in a predestined path and is guided by the player. Wielding the talking sword Caliburn, Sonic must weaken the Black Knight's immortality by retrieving the swords wielded by the Knights of the Round Table ( Sir Gawain, Sir Lancelot, and Sir Percival). Sonic the Hedgehog is drawn into the world by Merlina, the granddaughter of the wizard Merlin, who tells him that King Arthur is corrupted by power (becoming the titular "Black Knight") and must be stopped. The sequel to Sonic and the Secret Rings (and the last of the short-lived "Sonic Storybook" series) Black Knight takes place in another classic series of tales: the medieval legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Sonic and the Black Knight (known in Japan as SONIC: Sonikku to Ankoku no Kishi) is a 3D platformer developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Wii in early 2009 (March 12 in North America, March 12 in Japan, and March 13 in Europe).
